Work on a Fossil Forest

The DIGS (Dorset's Important Geological Sites) group tell me that On Saturday 1st October some members of the DIGS group spent the morning at Dorset Wildlife Trust site in Kingbarrow Quarry, Portland clearing scrub vegetation from the fossil forest horizon (basal Purbeck). This is not a DIGS site but one we like to look after as it is more accessible than the site at Lulworth Cove especially now the access there has been closed for H&S concerns. The work was carried out in preparation for the Geologists’ Association Conference on Geo-conservation later in the month to be held on Portland.
